If we don't, they will...
I have been spending the week concentrating on vacation bible school (I swear...if I hear that damn outrigger song one more time...), so posting is light. I am also working on a few guests posts for another blog, reading Bob Kauflin's book Worship Matters, and writing a book review for this blog.
But I did want to talk about Grub, a community meal in NYC. This is a group of artists, dumpster divers and generally good people who get together twice and week and eat. Below is a video entitled "First the Dishes, then the Revolution." I really like that phrase. This little get-together is the essence of community-it is a group of people doing something. And this isn't a "christian" event at all.
When we see the world exercising one of the most basic gospel get-togethers and it is seen as something exciting, we realize how bad a job the church has done at providing and being-together. To live intentionally is to do the simple things together, no matter how mundane they are. Our worship as a community is not just singing songs, or listening to somebody talk about Jesus...but it is rejoicing together in the life we have with each other and God and bringing others into the realization that the kingdom is at hand. This lifestyle is obvious Christianity.
As I was watching this video all I could think of was "Man, that would be a cool church."
"On Outrigger Island we live God's unshakable truth"
Aaah! I can't get it out of my head!!
And you have displayed some really good dance moves this week.
