7ish bowls of.....

The last week has been really busy, but I wanted to share some links and new sites with you.

1.  This guy makes every 7 bowls post, but you need to check out Michael Spencers series on The Evangelical Liturgy.  He is three posts in and it has been great.

2. Revelation Resources.  You know me for being the apocalyptic geek, and I try to gather good blogs regarding the subject.  Spend some time poking around there if you are interested.

3. JD Walt.  This is an older post, but worth it.  It is in the realm of worship and is titled Worship Design Thought: Are we choosing novelty or innovation

These are only three, but I think that they should keep you occupied.  I am in the middle of a preaching series at church in the gospels and I am speaking this week in the last Asbury Chapel of the summer.  Have a great week.

7 Bowls of.......

I know that I normally do these posts on Saturday, but its been awhile and I finally got things together.

1.  A review of Accordance software and how it works in bible study.  I love Accordance and this was a great post about the software, but also about how to conduct medium level bible study.  HERE.

2.  More Internet Monk love.  In this post are some suggestions for interpreting the gospels. HERE.

3.  While the term "emerging church" has slipped out of vogue, many of the issues that were raised during this trend are still important.  This post talks about the EC and Liturgy. HERE.

4.  I have written about how Christian Music lacks an artistic edge here, and I have slowly started to find some folks that break the mold.  The Emerging Psalter is a great project. HERE.

5.  Eschatology, Political Theology......what else is there to not like.  Great article about both. HERE.

6.  Sometimes a whole site is worth mentioning.  Church Tech Arts has many great conversations about what it means to lead the Audio/Visual team during worship. HERE.

7.  Another great blog that continues the Augustinian thread about the church has society. HERE.

7 Bowls of......

Its been along time since I kept up with my Saturday "7 Bowls of...." random link posts, but it is a practice that I am going to try to get going again.  In no particular order, here are some interesting links I want to share this week.  Some of these aren't "current", but hopefully next week I won't be playing catch up.

1. Good Friend and traveling buddy Benji Overcash has a great post about Rapture Theology.  He is writing for the Theophilux site.  What's wrong with Rapture Theology.

2.  David Fitch is a pastor and scholar that asks some provoking questions.  He is writing a series about issues the evangelical church is dealing with, specifically "When they will not come", and the issues the modern church is dealing with in regard to attractional based action and evangelism strategies.  In this post he tackles apologetics and witnessing.

3.  Here is a great site about the various ecumenical uses of prayer beads.  This is a must read for the closet liturgical folk stuck in a conservative protestant congregation.

4.  Michael Spencer, the Internet Monk, has a great thread about Protestant use of the rosary.  While this began as an advert for my bud Alan Creech, some great conversation goes on in the comment section.

5.  More of the Internet Monk, this time specifically regarding the idea of "What Jesus's Community Looks Like".

6.  I saw this post several months ago and marked it.  A leading Southern Baptist asked twitter what people thought of the denomination, and got some very interesting responses.

7.  Last, Chuck Warnock runs a blog about being a small church pastor.  More and more I understand the holy task of serving in a small community and I plan to spend some time reading this blog.  Confessions of a Small Church Pastor.

The 7 bowls of...

A few months ago, Blogging Guru Michael Spencer came to Asbury and talked about blogging.  One of the things he suggested was to find a way to handle "link" posts and offer your readers pieces of information that they might find handy.  My liturgical jedi JD Walt, does a regular posting of "14 stations of" posts, so I decided to follow his lead.  I will try to get this going every Saturday.  Since most of my schoolwork/research is in Revelation, I decided to call this the "7 bowls of..." and offer 7 great links.

1.  Top 10 Printable Paper Productivity Tools.  Great lifejacker article collecting some amazing uses of paper-which is still my favorite method of organization (sorry Jeremiah)

2.  NT Wright on Worship Songs.  JD has quite the discussion going on here.

3.  Why Contemporary Music makes congregational singing difficult.  Michael spencer has had some difficult posts this summer, asking the questions that we are often to afraid to bring up.  This is a post that any minister should read.

4.  Rise of the New Living Translation.  Rick Mansfield taught an Accordance seminar on Asbury campus this spring, and I enjoyed getting to meet him.  Lately, I have been pulling my old NLT 1st edition of the shelf and using it-and I like it alot.  Rick has offers several reasons why we may see the NLT become the most popular English translation.

5.  Going To Seminary Adds Video.  So I guess part of this is shameless promotion since I contribute to the site.  But some new features have been rolled out lately and I am excited to see what happens around the site once the school year gets closer.

6.  Why You should Twitter with Me.  My buddy Jeremiah really brings out why Twitter is a great tool for ministers and/or Christians.  For anyone weary of tech advances, read this.

7. The Worship Community.  This entire site has had my focus over the last few weeks.  I have looked for years for a great online worship resource, with articles and forums.  This is it as far as I am concerned.
