Over the last few weeks one of my favorite shows as been "The Monastery" on TLC. I posted on it a few back if you want to go digging. The struggle that these guys have had going on is wild.
This really parallels something that I have been looking into for quite awhile. Last year Meredith and I lived next door (really we were in the same clearing of a deer camp) with some great friends of ours. We joked about calling it the commune and other things but it really planted a seed in us.
I am not coming out and saying that in the next few years I will be starting some post-monastic community anywhere, but I am investigating what it would take to try to interpret some of these thoughts in a different way. Some of these thoughts have happened in making these little wooden guys here. To make a long story short, these little monks are an expression of thoughts that I think alot of people have about monastic life. There is a better profile in this video HERE of some of my work from last year.
But I am reading a bit of literature on the different communities that people have going, and i really hope to try to articulate this better in the future.
